Pasticceria Piccioli is probably my favorite pasticceria (pastry shop) in Florence. There are always fresh, glossy chocolate cakes and mouthwatering fruit tarts in the window, whereas the interior is comforting with its rich scent of butter and vanilla.
The reason why I stop at Piccioli so often is their Budino di Riso, a traditional Florentine pastry that essentially consists of a rice pudding baked in a shortbread case and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Piccioli’s budino has a flaky, buttery crust that crumbles as you bite into it, and a creamy filling that tastes deliciously milky.
