Spumini, which comes from the Italian “spuma” (foam) and translates as “little foams,” are crunchy meringues shaped into fluffy peaks. They look glossy and have a sandy, crumbly texture.

Pasticceria Piccioli is probably my favorite pasticceria (pastry shop) in Florence. There are always fresh, glossy chocolate cakes and mouthwatering fruit tarts in the window, whereas the interior is comforting with its rich scent of butter and vanilla.
