Last month we had the great pleasure of hosting a special communal dinner in collaboration with Sunday Suppers, the food and design community founded in New York by Karen Mordechai. Sobremesa by Sunday Suppers was a great opportunity to bring together people and good food. We saw some old friends and met a few new ones as well – our friend Dorin Vasilescu joined us and took all the beautiful photos in this post.
Created by Sunday Suppers, the menu was inspired by the season. Along with homemade tortillas, we served curried cauliflower, lime pickled radishes, coconut cacao black beans, charred jalapeño guacamole and the most irresistible green crema. The menu also included sopa de lima, a Mexican chicken soup with lime, served with tortilla chips. The dinner was capped off with a creamy chocolate avocado pudding topped with whipped creme fraiche, hazelnuts, cinnamon and cacao nibs. The meal was vibrant in flavors and colors.
For the table, we chose handmade plates from Sbigoli Ceramiche, which helped us create the perfect setting for an elegant yet rustic gathering. We used a raw cotton tablecloth to highlight the vibrant ingredients of the meal. Sunday Suppers-designed menu cards added an extra element of care to the setting.
Tickets sold out quickly, which made us really happy – proceeds from the dinner went to The Hunger Project, a global program empowering men and women living in rural areas of the world to make sustainable progress in overcoming hunger. Dolce Emporio, an historic wine and candy store in Florence, kindly provided all the wine and spirits for the event.
