Ciabatta, which means “slipper,” is a traditional Italian bread shaped into a flat, oblong form. It has a crunchy crust and a chewy interior that makes it a great sandwich bread.
In Tuscany, ciabatta is used for bruschettas and stuffed with any filling – prosciutto e pecorino (“ham and pecorino cheese”) is my favorite.
